Educational aids - Interactive whiteboards

What is an interactive whiteboard?

An interactive whiteboard (IWB), is a large interactive display that connects to a computer and projector. A projector projects the computer's desktop onto the board's surface where users control the computer using a pen, finger, stylus, or other device (from wikipedia). The Interactive Whiteboard is a technology that promises to truly transform the classroom.

The market leaders at the moment are Promethean, Smart and Luidia e-beam and mimio.

Smart technologies seems to have been around the longest and is very common in the USA, and this is why many people still call IWBs Smartboards, but this is the equivalent to calling a vacuum cleaner a Hoover.

Promethean appears to have gained more ground recently and is very popular in the UK and Australia.

Luidia E-beam and Mimio seems to have become popular of late because they offer the possibility of turning regular whiteboards into IWBs, thus being a lower cost solution.

Luidia’s eBeam hardware and software products allow text, images and video to be projected onto a variety of surfaces, where an interactive stylus or marker can be used to add notes, access control menus, manipulate images and create diagrams and drawings . The presentations, notes and images can be saved and emailed to class or meeting participants, as well as shared in real time on local networks or over the Internet.

Mimio, on the other hand, does not offer so many features. Many user reviews prove that Luidia'E-beam is the better among the two. This is one such user review.

Education in India, Tamilnadu

The following is a list of current trends in Indian education:
Growing population of students enrolling combined with inadequate infrastructure (faculty, administration, buildings, etc.)
Changing student needs (lack of time and need for flexibility are foremost)

Education institutions will have to make use of the technology available today. Instead of the teacher repeating the same content again and again (this will be boring to the teacher as well), sessions can be recorded and played again to the next batch. This gives the teacher more time to concentrate on individual student needs. Instructions should be more student centered, non-linear, and self-directed (needed in order to meet the diverse academic needs of students).

Schools and colleges need to create more interactive classrooms.  One way is by creating slides and having a discussion on each slide. E-beam is a very useful product in this category. It serves as a digital pen in a virtual world. Teachers can draw, write, change over to the next slide and even record sessions with an e-beam. The recorded session can also be played back with the in-built speakers in e-beam engage.

Virtual classes can be setup in which a student unable to attend class, can view the ongoing lecture in real time.

Evoluer provides educational solutions at all levels, right from ERP and management softwares, lab equipments upto smart classes including e-beam and virtual classrooms

Potential for software development in India

Over the last few years, rise in income levels and literacy rates has lead to an increase in the number of people using computers. With many IT companies focusing on US and European markets, the time has come for them to concentrate on domestic markets. By domestic markets, I refer not to metropolitan cities, but to developing cities like Coimbatore, Kochi, etc.

Evoluer is a IT solution providing company in Coimbatore. We hope to capitalize on this booming market.
